Who we are
Get to know your doula
My name is LaTanya. I am a trained and certified doula, and retired Special Education Administrator and teacher. My decision to become a Doula was birthed out of my own lived and miscarried birthing experience, and hearing accounts of women needing physical, emotional, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. Hence, the name, Empowered Pregnancy Doula Services.
As a doula, I advocate and prioritize building collaborative relationships with care providers, the birthing person, and their partner(s), ensuring that clients’ voices are heard, and their choices respected. This involves advocating for informed consent and supporting clients in asserting their rights during childbirth. and interrupting oppressive behaviors. I work to uphold my clients’ autonomy and well-being throughout their birthing experience.

I am a Mom too
It all started here...
I am a married mother of 2 adult children, 1 step daughter, 3 grandsons, and one great grandson.
My day to day life involves enjoying family and friends, crafting, and being an adventurous spirit.

Frequently asked
Questions
A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. We offer comfort techniques, help you navigate your birth plan, and provide guidance in your decision-making, ensuring you feel supported and empowered every step of the way.
Absolutely! Whether you’re planning a hospital birth, home birth, or birthing center, a doula can offer valuable support in any setting. We work alongside your medical team to ensure your needs are met, advocating for your birth preferences and providing continuous emotional and physical care.
It’s ideal to hire a doula early in your pregnancy, as we can assist with prenatal planning, provide early education, and build a trusting relationship. However, it’s never too late to seek support—if you’re closer to your due date, we’d still be honored to work with you!
Postpartum doula visits focus on your recovery and adjusting to life with your newborn. We provide breastfeeding support, newborn care guidance, help with light household tasks, and offer emotional support to ensure you feel confident and rested as you transition into parenthood.
While midwives and nurses provide medical care and assist with the birth itself, a doula’s role is focused on emotional and physical support. We work with you to ensure your comfort, advocate for your choices, and offer reassurance throughout the process, complementing the care provided by your medical team.
